Just my b%t@#ing fest! Sorry!

Oh Amy! Once again, I can't get over it! So I have to b!%@# a little to get this off my chest.

Okay... I know a writer's voice is very important! Very important, in most (if not all) cases determining whether someone buys your book or not. Is anyone entered in a competition that specifically looks at the writer's voice?

I judge two competitions, Winter Rose and Daphne DuMaurier - neither of them says anything about the writer's voice being a perticular way. Am I missing something? Is there something I just don't understand? How can someone comment on a writer's voice - or God forbid make suggestions on changes that should happen for no good reason except that the judge would prefer it.

I can't even begin to tell you how pissed off I am about this! Contests are such a great opportunity for any author to get feedback from an audience - not to get ripped apart for being unique.

ANYONE who can't get over their jealous attitude and judge a competition fairly need not apply for the job of judge! When you become a judge you are volunteering to provide authors with feedback that will HELP them with their writing goals - NOT make them want to quit writing and hide under a rock! Shame on anyone who makes another person feel less of a writer! Shame! It's hard enough without A$$#oles like them running around to make it in this industry! Find another way to take out your frustrations - one that will be more productive!

Sorry about that prior deleted comment! I made a horrid typo. :D

Goodness, that's so weird that people would criticize writers' voices for being too unique. As I understand the concept of voice, uniqueness is the most important concept!

Thanks for a good rant, Vicky! :D

Exactly!!!!! :)

Typos - what are those? I never have typos! I have what I call - 'Did I seriously write that?' moments. ;) This thing needs spell check! :)

You go, girl! RANT!!
Feels so good, doesn't it?

I NEVER enter contests. I have enough insecurities to fill a coal mine as it is! I get the feedback I need from TL and my editor.
And out of four manuscripts written, three have been sold. The fourth - well I knew when I started it wasn't going anywhere, - it was more of an exercise - so no skin off my back.
But the children's lit -- now THAT'S another story. I'm wallpapering my upstairs with the reject form letters!! :)

Oh Wylie - I say you cover the rejection letters with candy wrappers - just a suggestion... MMmmm... now I want chocolate! :)

Great Rant, your rant was more colorful than mine for sure!

I loved it, made me feel so good reading your rant. I judged the Golden Heart, and I judged the entries on not my own personal likes, but whether the pace, flow was good etc., I found good in all the pieces I read, even if I didn't like all the entries.

Your rant rocked!

And as for Wylie's Childrens Lit stuff (which I have read because we are taking the same course), it rocks, it's just 10x harder to break into Children's Lit, and really no support group. Now, that's my rant for tonight on your comments.
