Yay! I have a CP!

Okay, so through my wonderful RWA OL Chapter I found a CP! I've talked to her and she seems wonderful. She lives a bazillion miles away, which sucks... but you can't have everything. And as long as she doesn't hate my work, I'll accept the distance.

So... now comes giving her my work... Um... I'm anxious, nervous, and flat out scared. Which actually I find hilarious because over the years at my job I've grown thick skin and taught others to grow it too!

I take feedback very well (or at least I think I do.) I take it and learn from it. What was done in the past can't be changed, but the future can. I know it's not the most profound saying, but it is true. So there it is.

As for having a CP, I have to tell you... so far I feel like I can't slack off. We have expectations of each other, and in order to make them happen and work with each other to our full potential I need to get my butt into gear and finish editing! After all, I actually need to have something finished to give her to critique.

Okay, back to work. This time for real! ;)

I don't take negative feedback well at all. I get too defensive. Guess that tells me it's a good thing I didn't pursue writing!

Good for you Vicky! I'm sure things will work out well. That first critique session is always a bit uncomfortable. You don't know if you'll like her writing, if you'r a good fit, etc.

But I know things will work out. :)

Angela - :) A lot of people don't take feedback well. I used to be one of them, but unfortunately in my profession you can't avoid it. My job is to give feedback to others, and let me tell you... I know it's hard to get negative feedback, but it's harder to give it. Especially if it's to someone you genuinely like.

Thanks Christine! I hope it works out too. And I really hope that this uncomfortable phase passes quickly. :)

Having a CP is the best thing I ever did. I was scared too but I was blessed with an amazing CP. She lives in England and I'm in BC so she is also a kazillion miles away. We also write two different genres of romance but still, it works. Weirdly enough we keep finding things we have in common too.

Anyway, congrats on the CP - I hope you find it very beneficial!

Congrats on the CP. I still sometimes struggle a bit with the negative feed back, but I've grown a very tough kevlon hide. It seems to work.

You'll be fine and benefits of fresh eyes far outweigh the worry of negative rejection.

Congratulations! I'm excited for you, and good luck! A great critique partner is worth her weight in gold. :)
