Whoopsies!

Yeah... it's exactly what it looks like! :) I have a problem that I'm hoping you guys can help me with...

My characters didn't use a condom. They were both distraught over the shooting of a friend and one thing led to the other... *insert the little happy face guy that wiggles his eyebrows here.* I think that part is understandable. Right?

Anyways my question to you is... How long do you think is a reasonable amount of time for them before they realize the mistake that they had made?

My hero realizes in 2 days. My sister edits my work, and for about an hour yelled at me about how irresponsible my characters looked if they didn't notice it sooner. I kind of see her point, which is why I'm asking...

Passion? Irresponsibility? 2 days? 2 minutes? Help!

If you are trying to use it as a dramatic moment, I'd say the morning after. That way someone can leave in a hurry feeling very guilty!

Thanks Christine!

Now I just have to find a way to sucker him back into her bed after a panic attack like that. :)

I agree with Christine, the morning after is good.

Katie McAllister wrote a hilarious book called "Men in Kilts". They didn't use a condom until the heroine had a scare and then they argued over a misunderstanding. He thought she was using the pill which she couldn't cause it goofed around with her hormones and she thought he had a vasectomy, but he thought she was talking about his appendix and so on and so on. It was a hilarious argument and thus it ensued a late night trip to pharmacy and making sure things were taken care of from there.

I remember that one! I loved "Men in Kilts" probably one my favourite books McAllister wrote - just so much information that I wouldn't have known about the Scootish lifestyle.

I loved Ian, great character! *sigh* Mr. Sexy Scot! And until you just reminded me I totally forgot about the entire contraception problem they had. :)

Thanks! But you're both right and I'm tearing apart my WIP so that I could do a "next day" scenario about forgetting. YAY! Edits!

Unless hero-man is so over-the-moon, he completely loses his brains, then when he 'thinks back' to their amazing tete-a-tete, it dawns on him...?
Or maybe that's trying to fit a square peg in a round hole
(baaaaad pun!)

Good luck!

I'm with Christine, I think when they wake up in the morning. The light of dawn so to speak. :-)

I guess it depends on how many times they did the deed. Once will not make a man worry too much the morning after, the odds are poorer. If it was an all night excercise session with a gatorade run, the odds go up. So in that case, the next morning is ok. However, I think that it is more likely the woman would freak about it quicker. Most guys are pretty irresponsible about it.
